Summary of evidence and Expert Committee recommendations
The EMLc Subcommittee accepted the public health need for supplementation with iron and folic acid in children. Therefore, the Subcommittee agreed to endorse ferrous salt as an essential medicine for children. Appropriate formulations of ferrous salts need to be included to cover the needs of neonates to adolescents. They should have appropriate excipients for children.
